Android is upgrading Bluetooth tracker protection with these two new Safety Features

Android is improving its security measures to prevent unauthorized Bluetooth device tracking. By taking additional proactive steps to counteract possible monitoring risks, the most recent versions seek to provide consumers more control.

"As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, we've made technology improvements to bring you alerts faster and more often. We're also rolling out new features for Find My Device compatible tags", Google Said in a Post

Android's "unknown tracker alerts" notify users if an unfamiliar Bluetooth tracker is moving with them. Now, these alerts are being improved to provide even quicker and more frequent notifications, allowing users to take action sooner.

Two new features for Android's unknown tracker alerts

In addition to enhanced alerts, Android is introducing two features for Find My Device compatible tags:

Temporarily pause location: This feature allows users to temporarily disable location updates from their phone for up to 24 hours, preventing a detected unknown tag from tracking their movements. This provides a crucial first line of defense while users locate and disable the tag.

Find nearby: If an unknown tracker alert is triggered, users can now utilize the "Find Nearby" feature to pinpoint the tag's location. The Android device will guide the user to the tag, aiding in its discovery and removal.

"Your safety is our priority, so we're continuously improving unknown tracker alerts to help you stay ahead of unwanted tracking," the company said.

What to do after getting an unknown tracker alert

If users turn off Bluetooth or location services, or turn on Airplane Mode, their phones won't prevent the owner of the tracker or device from finding the location of the tracker.

Here's how you can disable the tracker:

  • On your device, tap the tracker notification to open a map.
  • Find where the tracker has been detected traveling with you.
  • Tap Play sound, which causes the tracker to make a sound.
  • You won’t notify the owner if you play the sound.
  • To locate the tracker, follow the sound.
  • If you find the tracker, tap Next steps.
